Some do. Here is my opinion though I was homeless when from the age of 17 till 19 thats two years it was because my father was abusive and I didnt want any part of it so I left I prefered to be on the street rather than live with someone who beat me everyday and yes there was the option for me to live in a group/foster home but when I tryed that people where just as abusive and so I chose the life of the streets. I did use my time wisely though I found a job and worked my butt off and did nothing but safe my money I didnt spend a penny unless I really really needed something. I save my money till I had enough to rent a studio. I never dreamed i'd have the luxarys I have today. I have a 2 bedroom townhouse with everything ive ever dreamed of and I am never hesitant to give out money to others in need, because i've been there and I volanteer my time to the local shelters as much as I can because I know how bad it is and I am just one of the lucky ones to get myself out've living on the street. I think more people need to help the homeless not just giving money or anything but you can donate your time to help those in need or something. I feel though that i've you dont try to at least take yourself out've poverty than I dont want to help you. I feel for the homeless children out there especially because I know just what its like and NO kid out there no matter what they've done or whats being done to them should not be out on the street. Gosh I could go on and on about this topic I give you a thumbs up for this topic.

A few do but not the Government they spend so much money meddling in other country's affairs that there is nothing left for our own country of course if you come here from another country you can get a government interest free loan to start a business and you don't pay income taxes for 2 years at least in most cases and even if you are not a citizen and don't pay taxes you can still get food stamps all the while those of us who are struggling to make it pay check to pay check still get taxes deducted and may even have to give the government more money to give away come January. Of course if you are rich and a republican is in office it's oh happy day because you will get lots more tax breaks because it is so hard to survive on your millions

I care very much about the working poor. I don't believe that anyone should have to live in poverty while still doing an honest day's work.
But I have no sympathy for the people who make a "career" out of living off of this country's wellfare system. The county I grew up in is full of lifetime wellfare recipients who make no effort to improve their situation in life. The system makes it too easy for them to do nothing.
The entire system is broken. We let people work their entire lives for a wage that cannot possibly support them and their families. At the same time we let less motivated people live fairly comfortable lives at taxpayers expense. In essence we are punishing the motivated and rewarding the lazy.
I guess I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that.

This is America...where one can choose to get the education/skills/ training they need (mostly free) to pursue a life without poverty.
Those that are orphans/the ill/infirm/and truely disabled ARE entitled to receive help (housing, medical, food) courtesy of the taxpayers...
Many people do care about those that through no fault of their own do need assistance temporary or permanent...
NO ONE on this planet is guaranteed a life without hardship, obstacles, loss or physical/mental impairment.
But there are people who choose to scam the system, or seek to profit from others "suffering"
There R many politicians that know that promising to get people "free stuff or "help" will always generate votes and $$ .
What I think people get angry about is simply that the truth about many of the poor/homeless is simply that some individuals choose to make decisions that add to their own misery and then scream that they deserve Help. Like the current demand that the rich/middle class must see to the needs of everyone who wants rather than works at obtaining...

Great question, with hundreds of spiritually concerned people in R/S this is all the responses? We don't want to take the resposniblity of caring for the homeless, it might interfere with our social life or keep us from getting that new car. I love you however for asking.

If it helps get me elected, I care. However, if it makes me come across as weak and socialist, I don't.
Will I get a political contribution? How about a fat executive salary for running a non-profit charity for the homeless?
Basically, there are a LOT of people who care, assuming they can find a way to profit from it politically or financially.

of course there are people who care.....just not enough support to make a big difference...and not all homeless and poor put much effort into helping themselves either...

I'm sure they do... at least some ppl do. You care enough to ask the question don't you? Unfortunately we now have the idea of "If I ignore it, it will go away" which can be seen thought out the world (esp in the 3rd world) It's same as AIDS, we just try to ignore it... which is a shame.

the one's in 3rd world countries have it ten times worst. Still, I'd like to just help them all, dammit. Governments are pretty frustrating.
