Why are sponges always wet when you open them up from a package?

    its packaged in some kind of preservative when they dry out they get real stiff. Not all spnges are this way though some are more porous so they remain soft even when completely dry.

    To make them look more uniform, and appealing. Take a new clean sponge out of the pack and in a couple of days it will look like an old used one even if you don't use it.

    Mine never are. Maybe the ones you opened up were in a damp place.

    humidity keeps them from disintegrating in the package..If they dried-up they would break easily

    the warehouse clerk used them b4 shipment
