Are you married to a Russian Woman?

I am married to a Ukrainian woman, we have a 6 year old daughter, and we are exceptionally happy together.

There are some basic keys to knowing if it is a good match:

1. Watch the age difference. Girls 17-22 do not care about the age difference, but because of their immaturity, they are likely to not know what they want in life. If there is a big age difference, they are probably serious, but a few years from now might not like to be settled down and "poof", divorce time.

Women older than that usually prefer an age difference of no more that 15 years +/-. If the age difference is more, just be a bit more careful.

2. Spend time with her in person first. Not just 2 weeks, 2 times, and then you bring her over. Spend lots of time, as it is the only way to know her. Several trips, many phone calls.

If you are really serious, get a vonage phone, and send one to her. The expense of the internet is worth it in saved phone charges. Talk talk talk... after a bit, you will know each other well.

3. Education level... your education levels should be similar. If she is educated less, or more, it can lead to some difficulties. But a professional in Russia will want to be a professional here, and they are responsible women.

4. English skills. I have never seen a marriage work, when she has "basic" skills, if you cannot speak Russian. All the promises of "I will teach you English/Russian" will fall apart. Trust me, you can't learn a foreign language from your spouse.

Just take care that you know her. "Real" Russian women are fine mates if you give them what they can not find in Russia (due to the shortage of men): respect, attention, tenderness, attention, don't get drunk, attention, and... the difficult one for EVERY English/Russian couple...

Learn about her culture. I remember the first time I got up to help my wife wash the dishes... I thought I was being helpful. When she burst into tears, I learned that to her it meant she was not a good housewife, and I thought she was incapable of doing a proper job. Silly to me, serious to her.

I have talked to a couple of women from Russia, and it never turned serious. I ended up marrying a woman from Poland. In the case of my father, he brought a girl from Turkey over here and as soon as she got here, she flew like a canary. He brought another woman over here from Poland and they are still married today. The same goes for my wife, we are still married and its been 4 years. I would just look for any obvious questions or statements that seem to point in that direction.

I didn't know there were women in Russia... They are all so hairy and burly that I thought they were all men.
