Any information about Buddhism and fasting?

I' m just curious--do Buddists fast? When and why?

Thanks!

Not usually. Buddha taught a middle way. However, some Buddhists will fast as a way of enhancing meditation. It is in no way a requirement of practice, though.

Theravadin monks do not eat after 12noon. They are allowed to drink beverages, like afternoon tea, the next meal is breakfast the next morning. Lay people can take the option of practicing this by taking the 8 precepts. I don't know of a requirement that they must fast.

I'm not sure of other traditions...it might be different.

I don't think there are fasts for lay people- I do think that if a monk is doing intensive work in a retreat, sometimes he or she will do some fasting to intensify experiences, but this is only under direction of a lama (teacher) with instructions and supervision.

Why? To create reality one must:

    1) Know what they want

    2) Be willing to wait for their desire to manifest

    3) Be willing to do without (fast) until the creation manifests.

    Fasting has many forms.
