Magnetohydrodynamic propultion?

Why has no government invested time, energy and money to develop this super silent, extreemly high-tech method of propultion?

    Super-silent obviously is good for submarines. High-tech is irrelevant. The question is how efficient, reliable and cost-effective it is. The chance the US navy has overlooked such a technology is about 1 in a gazillion.

    One of three reasons I guess......

    1) It doesn't work

    2) They are ignorant of it

    3) The oil companies own the patents!
