Employee Motivation?

I am writing a report on motivation and for no reason that I can see right now, I am wondering what most people believe that their reason for going to work, and doing your work every day. I would like people to answer 1) What is your motivation for going to work? 2) Why motivates you to keep doing your daily job? 3) What would motivate you to do better? 4) Without reading other replies, what do you think will motivate others to do better?

I know this isn't very scientific but in a way it can be unbiased. I have been doing research for about 6 weeks now so I know how motivation started and other scientists who have worked with it. I would like an idea of how well we know ourselves as compared to what the research is telling me.

Thanks everyone!

I think it's obvious that the majority of people go to their job is for the money, though there is a slight percentage that actually enjoys their profession. If the work environment is less hostile and more people-friendly or you have more incentives, such as prizes or free-trips for a certain amount of work or hours completed, then I think more people wouldbe motivated towards efficiency. It's like bribing a toddler with candy.

I honestly go to work for the money, I hate everything about my job and everyone i work with. The thought of getting paid motivates me and if i could change jobs i would!... I'm in the south and by golly they have a huge problem still with treating woman like they are dirt!
