Beatles sang it, it was written by someone else...i have to look it up.

Ahhhh, It was written by Bert Russel and Phil Medley. First recorded by Isley Brothers in 1962 then by the Beatles in 1963

Today's young people probably got turned onto this song in the movie: Ferris Beuller's Day Off when Ferris gets up and lip syncs the Beatles version on a float in a parade

NOT Chubby Checker, that was 'Lets Twist Again'. 'Twist and Shout' is an old R'nB classic most famous in this country by The Beatles who sang it at the London Palladium when John Lennon famously introduced it with these words' The people in the cheap seats, clap your hands. The rest just rattle your jewelry!'

The problem is that so mant people recorded it in a short period of time. Are you sure you know the first one? A guy named Johnny O'keefe recorded it in 1962 (I think) but I'm not sure this was the first recording.

Chubby Checkers comes to mind. Of course I'm probably thinking of a different song.
