What is considered the right amount of time to wait when someone puts you on hold.?

2 minutes your being very generous. I would not and do not hold on that long. They are being rude by not coming back and telling you they will call you back if they need to take the phone call. God bless

I think it depends on whom you are on hold with. If you are calling a service like a credit card company, I would say 10 mins.(It takes so long just to get through the menu options it is a waste to hang up) But if it is a friend or family member, then I think 2 mins is fine.

I hate when people CALL ME then someone else beeps in and they put ME on hold forever! That is so rude. Tell the other end to call back in a few minutes(that only should only take about 10 seconds!) don't put me on hold when YOU called ME!!!

I think that putting someone on hold for more than a minute or two is rude, especially in a casual situation .I do not like call waiting, I do not have it on my phone. But I do not mind someone answering the phone, saying can you hold please, and then puts me in line to be helped. That is how sectretaries are trained to handle incoming calls, and that is fine, and I do not mind being put on hold for her to answer another call, and put them in line to be helped.

My friend called me the other day, she has call waiting. She answered the phone twice during our conversation, and was gone awhile, and answered the door once. The more polite thing to do is to tell me that she thought she had picked a time to call me when she would not be busy, and was wrong, and say she will call me back another time. Next time, I will just say, you're busy, go on and go, talk to you some other time.

I would wait only a couple minutes then hang up, if its family or close friends then no longer than 5 mins.

2-3 minutes sounds right. It's common courtesy. They can always take your name and number and call you back. If it's an automated system I use e-mail. If the person on the other ends has no phone etiquette, I'll take my business else where.

I won't wait 2 minutes, maybe a minute at max. Especially if I'm on my cell phone.

30 seconds. My time is precious. No one keeps me holding on for longer than 30 seconds.

I hang up after a minute or two...they can call me back.

Tell your friends to grow up and just call back.

No it's not too quick if you are busy doing something . Your time is as valuable as your friends.
