How can I better deal with stress?

I have an extremely stressful job as an office manager for two companies. It doesn't help that I have alot of problems sleeping at night so I feel like I stay drained all the time. I have a problem falling asleep and staying asleep. My job is so demanding that I stay tense and upset and I cry when I'm stressed or angry so I get the feeling people think I can't handle my job although I can.

My question is can anyone suggest something to lower my stress level or to at least help me sleep better? I would prefer method over pills since I'm not really a pill taker. Also, I don't drink so suggesting that I drink to go to sleep will not help either.

I have a love/hate relationship with my job but it's more love than anything so I have no desire to change careers or companies either.

Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.

You are on a bad cycle. Your work is affecting your stress levels which is affecting your sleep which is affecting your outlook on your work. I'll also guess that stress is affecting your eating habits and your friendships as well.

I strongly recommend this book: "The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal"

In short, you need to get back on a "good" cycle and the first and foremost thing to look at is your "physical" being. Are you eating right? Do you exercice regularly? Do you push yourself physically out of your comfort zone? Do you go to bed at the same time every night? Doing these things will help you sleep better at night. If you are sleeping better at night then you will be better prepared for mental challenges such as a stressful job.

Practice Mindfulness Meditation (very similiar to The Mindfulness of Breathing) 15 min. a day. This is not long, considering we have 24 hrs. in a day. And it is simple to learn. It erradicates Stress, Depression, Anxieties, producing mental/emotional calmness, peace, and it also produces patience, understanding, and tolerance within a person. It already has been proven by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD. and many other Medical Doctors, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapists to improve a person's Cognitive Thinking Skills, improve one's memory, concentration and focus, Reduce Stress exceedingly, and produce Patience, and a calm Mental & emotional State. "Coming to Our Senses" by Jon Kabat-Zinn AND "Open Heart, CLear Mind" by: Thubten Chodron are two excellent books to read.

my suggestion is ignore all the bullshit, but i doubt you can, only because i assume you're not nearly as mentally unstable as me (i prefer the term INSANE).

so aside from that, whenever you get the opportunity, listen to some of your favorite music. get lost in it all (the lyrics, rhythm, beat, etc), that seems to help allot of people out.

also, just look on the bright side, there could be allot more sh!t you have to deal with. for example, I'm at a job corps trying to learn a trade or two, & there is soooo much stress here, it's no wonder why i have the problems i do. no joke!

in the end, just find ways to have fun, both in your personal & professional life.

Go to a Reiki practitioner, a registered one and ask for help in relaxing. The treatment is about allowing your bodies own electromagnetic field to flow properly as when it does it can heal itself. The greatest stress-buster there is is being able to relax you body and when you do the tension drains away. Even better, once you have tried it you can use some of the techniques yourself and will only need the therapist occasionally to keep you on track. Good Luck!

    Hello

I found out that 90% of things we worry about DON'T need worried about!

When I cant sleep I have several nature Cd's {ocean waves, spring rain storm,or what you like} and close my eyes and pretend I'm relaxing on a warm sunny beach or on my porch laying on my lounge chair during a spring shower or whatever. Maybe some incense in the air?

After graduating and starting to work full time it has been a struggle for me to find peace and balance. try to find a good activity to ensure that you are physically tired as well as mentally when you go to bed. I used to work out but now I find yoga to be my "sleeping pill" I sleep so well and deep now.
