Faulty IDE cable?

recently my pc beeps at startup and found out the IDE cable had failed, after getting a new power supply unit, anyone knows why the cables died?

i've been downloading much recently, could this be the cause?

    Your downloading is probably completely unrelated. If you did just get a new power supply, ensure that the IDE cables are securely connected to the hard drives and the motherboard. If you do not find fault with the connections, then you probably need new cables. Though they are encased in insulation, it is not unheard of for wiring to go bad in the insulation, or the possibility is that when the power supply was replaced, if the IDE cables were removed from the harddrives, and the removal might have dome some damage to the cables by pulling the "pins" from the cables out of their connection with the wires. I have done such damage to my IDE cables (especially Ultra-DMA cables) by pulling them from their connections by tugging on the cable rather than pulling from the plastic bracket.
