Twice this year my 98 Tahoe began to shift hard when the air temp was over 90 what could this be ????

The firs time .The temp. was 98 and i stoped to check the fluid It did not regester so i added fluid. When i got home i changed fluid and filter. The fluid look slightly burnd the filter looked good. The last time the temp was 93. I checked the fluid and got a low regester so i let it set for a while and it has been fine since. The fluid level is fine. ?????

i'm assuming that you know the fluid level on the trans has to be checked while idling in neutral, not while turned off. Gear shifting depends primarily on fluid pressure, if their is a loss of pressure during the heat, than i would think the fluid is low and/or burnt. Other than that is beyond what i know. Oh, and make sure it's the right type. Dextron for GM makes.
