Tin, abbreviated Sn , is element # 50 in the periodic table.

It has been used by man since about 3500 B.C. and was first used as an addition to copper to make it harder. It was first mined in its pure form about 600 B.C. in Cornwall, England,

and when the tin mine there closed in 1998 it brought 4000

years of tin mining to a close. I am including two sites which

will tell you everything you would ever want to know about tin. tOn the site with the periodic table, click on #50, Sn, and then go to the many links on the left hand side. The Wikipedia site is loaded with information.

Today, tin is mostly used as a coating on other metals to protect them from corrosion, and for building metal containers.

Tin (IPA: /ˈtɪn/) is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Sn (Latin: stannum) and atomic number 50. This silvery, malleable poor metal that is not easily oxidized in air and resists corrosion, is found in many alloys and is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. Tin is obtained chiefly from the mineral cassiterite, where it occurs as an oxide.

Tin is aluminum. Who discovered it I have no idea. Tin is used in canes for soft drinks, heavely used in production of aircrafts since tin is fairly light, etc. Check google for more.
