8 foot is a very wide opening for one gate. I would recommend a double four foot gate. Loews or Home Depot used to sell an adjustable steel frame to build a wood gate on - it worked very well - included the hinges and latch hardware as well. I am sure other hardware / building supply stores have a similar product.
You could also have a frame welded from 1.5" square tube steel.it should also have a diagonal brace and have the hinges welded to the frame as well. It will need to be a welded frame to take the weight and constent swinging.
If you do one gate - put a "sag wheel" on the latch side to help support the weight. If you cantilever from the hinge post it will not work for very long - best of luck.

First, for my connecting posts I used six by six posts set in concrete.
Then I took two eight foot sections of the same type privacy fence, reinforced the existing boards, the ones that actually hold the slats with two by fours. I then flipped the sections over and screwed two screws in each slat into each of the cross two by fours.
The trick is to get very good hinges, mount on the fence pieces you have just re enforced. Mount so the hinges screw into the new two by fours.
Then take and set the section up to the six by six posts, make sure they are level, each section should be about half of the distance to be spanned. Temporarily use shims to set the section on, then use good lag screws to mount on posts.
By using good judgment and take your time, you can have the privacy gate look exactly like the rest of your fence and since I have had mine for in excess of 10 years it does not sag. Make sure when you do set the gates they are high enough off the ground so they can open or you might have to dig out a little bit.
I used three hinges each side, very large gate hinges, the biggest that would go on a six by six post.

Layout and the setting of posts will require the most time. About 24 posts at least 24 inches deep with concrete by hand, with help, probably about 8 hours. Then the rest if ya work fast and know what you are doing with help another 8 to 16 hours.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/vTpbE
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
