he's allergic to chicken and chicken by-products... i think he must have gotten into something during a walk yesterday or the day before... his hair on his butt (above the tail, kinda on his back) is falling out and it looks like a rash... the vet is now closed... does anyone know anything i could give him or do for him? he seems to be very uncomfortable
i really appreciate all your responses! i'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow morning first thing. Thank you all for your help!

Yes, give him 25mg of allergy medicine benadryl for the itching and discomfort. Tell the vet about giving him that med! He will probably still give him a mild steroid shot for it anyway. That is what I give both my pups for their skin allergies, every day. Per my vet...and get him in there as soon as you can this week...

I wouldn't give anything to him unless you know what it is for sure. If He's really suffering though bring him to the emergency room, for pets. If not wait until the vet is open. Or drive to another vet, they may be able to give you some advice. Or go to the book store o on the Internet. Maybe you can learn something there.

Aww, poor pup. I wouldn't put anything on it until you know exactly what is causing it. Even something as simple and soothing as aloe vera may cause an adverse reaction. I would just try distracting him by playing or petting, to keep his mind off of his discomfort. He should be OK until your vet is open, unless he is vomiting or something severe like that. If that's the case, take him to the emergency vet right now.

This sounds like a flea problem.Try bathing your pet in the DAWN dish washing liquid, this will kill all fleas, but rinse him well. Then apply some Advantage once a month flea drops and Apply some iodine spray on the rash,This will help the rash to clear up shortly.

I may be wrong without seeing it but it could be the mange An old country remedy is to rub axle grease on it to kill the mange mites. Benadryl can be shoved down his throat to relieve itching till you get to the vet tommorow. Axle grease can be bought at your local auto supply store and is callled bearing grease and then put on a diaper so it won't get all over everything and keep him from licking it

I don't know, but if you're really worried, there should be an emergency vet service in your area. If you call your vet, their voicemail should give you the number of an after-hours pet care. Good luck!

try to make apointment with the vet fast. Keep your dog away from that area if he start chewing on it or licking it. Just keep him away from it. If it looks serious like bleeding or red, use neosportin (sp?) on it. It has to be a clear one. Also feed him with different food.

Whatever you do DO NOT give it baby asprin! I had a doctor tell us that it was okay to give our Standard Chihuahua them(one) when she had a fever or was sick. A few days like 4 after her 9th birthday last may she died because she developed anemia from the asprin. So please dont give it to your dog. i dont wish anyone to suffer how i did. Best Wishes

Are there any emergency vet clinics in your area. We have a few in my city.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what to do. Sorry!
