Any ideas (besides throwing it away) for a leaky iron?

It may have mineral deposits built up in it causing it to "spit". Try flushing it with plain white vinegar, then flushing it with DISTILLED water. See if that helps. In the future, use only distilled water to prevent mineral deposits.

We always get rid of our iron and replace it once it's leaky or something is busted on it. It is a very annoying problem.

Just use it without water, buy a spray bottle at the dollar store and mist your things with that instead.
