I was told that it could be done using Fdisk and look for partitions. I actually went the other way and had the shop remove partitions in my first pc before I knew much about it. The most common reason now to have partitions would be to run two different operating systems.

    Windows

    Linux?????

Partition Magic is very easy to use.

Simply slide an arrow side to side to set what size partition you want to create.

The alternative is to either get your hands on, or create a boot disk, then start your computer in dos mode, Type Fdisk at the command prompt, create new drive, and dictate the size of that drive

Then just format the drive and youre good to go.

It is a process, and if you dont mind the cost, @$40 bucks american, then it is a nice user friendly alternative to doing it yourself

Check it out. Do google search and follow the links

If you already have installed Windows on the drive you are wanting to partition, and do not want to format & start over, I recommend Partition Magic.

If it is a new installation you can divide the HDD into partitions during the install of XP. For an additional HDD, you do it from disk management in administrative tools>computer management.

It depends on the particluar virus you manage to catch. Using a different hard drive for the OS and the data drive will make a difference in terms of speed but if you were to attract a virus having the data split from the Operating System, wether on two different drives or two different partitions on the same drive will not make a difference.
