My ten month old son...?

He was just at the doctors for a check up and he is under weight. He weighs 16.9lbs. The doctor ran blood tests and they all came out fine. He does very well eating he just doesnt gain weight well. How much does your ten month old weigh? His father is tall and skinny so I am thinking he is going to be like dad. He is almost 29 inches tall.

I don't remember what they weighed at 10 months, but I do remember the doctors expressing serious concern over my daughter's height at about that age, she was in a very low percentile for her age group.

Of course, I am five foot two, and her father is Japanese. The genes aren't THERE for her to be tall. She is now 15 and 5'1". Short, but not abnormal.

Sounds like you have a long and lean boy, to me. If he is eating well, and getting as much as he wants, his body is probably doing exactly what it is supposed to for his body type.

You didn't mention how much the doctor says he should weigh. If it's just a couple of pounds difference, I definitely wouldn't sweat it. If it is more like 7 to 10 pounds, tests might be in order.

My 11 month old son is 22 1/2 lbs, he was 22 lbs at 10 months. He was also 4lbs when he was born. All babies gain weight differently. Breastfeeding/formula play a big roll as well. Formula babies tend to gain more faster! My son was formula feed (because I had to he was 8 weeks early). He also has a very healthy appetite, he is totally on table foods (and formula) now. He is in the 50% for weight and 89% for height (31inch). Your son will probably gain more on solids.

well, how much did he weigh when he was born? it can depend on that, my daughter is 11 months, and was 5lbs when she was born, and is still very small for her age, but based on her birth weight, she is fine. that may be the case with your son. if you're still worried though, see a doctor until you get an answer that makes sense.

Just feed your child healthy foods, no junk food, fast food, carbonated drinks or processed foods and no matter what his weight, he will be fine. Some people are underweight just as some are overweight. We all can't be the same.
