You are not just simply allergic to metal, rather, you are allergic to the nickel in the jewelry. It is a known medical allergic reaction, but as far as I know, there is no known cure. And you are correct, the only kind of metal you can wear without having this reactions is gold (specifically, PURE gold).

Just try to avoid wearing metal jewelry (watches, chains, rings, bracelets, etc.). Also, be weary of the metal buttons in jeans. Take care to cover them with cloth or some other fabric so that they do not directly touch your body whenever you wear jeans.

You are just a class act, stick to gold! ;-)

But here's an additional suggestion for those times when you just wanna wear something less than classy . . . coat the metal with clear fingernail polish. It prevents the metal from coming into direct contact with your skin and so you don't get the rash. I do this with the back of my watch and any earrings that I simply must wear. I also did it with sunglass arms where they touched my skin on my face, even pot metal rings. Works great!

You have just answered your own question. Do not wear any metal unless it has a minimum of 14K gold. What you are allergic to is the rhodium and/or nickel that is in the medal which are alloys used in producing a hard finish. There is some rhodium and nickel in all gold products through 18K I believe. The trouble is that gold is relatively soft on its own, so the alloy is necessary to strengthen it. It should not be a problem in anything 14K or higher.

You can't. Just stick to wearing only gold, because otherwise you will end up with a rash. Trust me, I can't even wear silver earrings, or hypoallergenic earrings , or gold less than 18 karat or I break out in hives and a rash.

my son was allergic to the medal snaps on his sleepers when he was little but he grew outta of that but I do have a uncle that became sick and the Dr figured it out that ice tea has nickle in it and he was allergic to that. you can wear a tank or tee shirt under the article that has the medal on it or just cover it up with tape or even nail polish (clear). my uncle also had to buy the fruits and veggies that had no medal but instead it had a plastic ring around it

Source(s): hope that helps a bit

Don't worry that is natuaral, my ex gf couldn't wear metals exact gold.

There's not much you can do about it, you are just allergic. There might be some medication you can take but it's really not worth it, just get some gold

if its still coming and going....and you are not wearing it anymore....it might not be the medal.

could be a metal button on an outfit you like.....maybe just that portion of your chest is exposed from your shirt and chemicals from work are getting on you causing it.

wear jewelry and it happens....removing the jewelry it will go away not to return unless worn again. since yours comes back, I would look for another cause.

You are allergic to nichol. I am too. I can only wear nichol free jewelry, meaning only the good stuff.

Go and see an allergist, your doctor should be able to refer you to one
