What are the SD Padres doing????

Why are the Padres searching for a power hitting third baseman?Dont they have Russel Branyan. He has shown that with consistent play he can make good contact on the ball. Ive not liked some of the moves the Padres have made. Like trading Barfield, I mean what the hell is wrong with them. The second base free agent market isnt that great.

Update:

I mean what is wrong with them?

With so much money to burn, 30 million, they're looking to get a "name" player like Aubrey Huff. That's the way Kevin Towers works.

They're looking to get Barry Zito too.

The Padres traded an all-star caliber second baseman, Mark Loretta, so that they could play Josh Barfield. Barfield had a decent season and the team traded him. The Padres are headed for the cellar and you can expect a lot of cost cutting moves from them.

I'm glad you asked this San Diego Mexican. Two possibilities, they either have salary cap issues and cannot pay Barfield what he is worth, or know they have good trade value with him and his triple A replacement is a highly rated prospect. Now, for Branyan, he is a hard working player and has a long career in the MLB ahead of him, however, as you know with SD's history they feel the most comfortable with a power hitter playing the corner. Ken Caminetti is a great example. You could say that the organization has their set ways of doing things...

Well, let's see. With Aramis Ramirez on the free agency, a lot of teams are going to bid for him. Look at it this way, who would you rather have, Branyan or Ramirez? The Padres are clearing up just in case they do sign Ramirez.

I have no clue but I've been asking the same question since the let Bochy go.

Nothing. all they did is hired a below average pitching coach Bud Black as their manager.
