I can only answer number one, as my psychology knowledge only goes so far (I am an engineering major)

in basic terms (because i don't know any of the complicated ones) - OCD is a disorder where a person feels that something bad will happen if they don't do what they obsess over, like if they don't knock on the table exactly 7 times, or if they don't fill in every single letter O on a page.

But if they are not able to complete their 'ritual', bad things CAN happen. They could be distracted by thinking about how they only tapped 6 times instead of 7, and trip and fall, or they could just be left with a feeling of un-completed-ness for the rest of the day, and depending on the severity of the condition, that might be bad enough.

It's considered a self-fulfilling prophecy because the disorder itself doesn't cause anything bad to happen, its the person with it who gets distracted or hurt. And because bad things do occasionally happen, it causes the person suffering from OCD to believe that they are doing the right thing by obsessing.

I can't answer the first but a defense mechanism used A lot is rationalization.. I know it's bad for it but ..it's on sale. I know I don't need to do that but....Displacement..someone ticks you off and you come home and kick the dog. Humor..- takes serious issues and uses ironic humor to avoid it. and Projection..a person gets in trouble at school and says "the teacher doesn't like me". There are so many but these are mine.

you need to go into more detail....like what are yall learning about There are many defense mechanisms and they vary from each person you can not say b/c you have OCD you will have for example displacement issues....I need to better understand your lesson.

    But maybe these

    humor, altruism, and sublimation
