As an agnostic I had once thought that atheism could be a belief

    but no

    Atheists don't claim anyhing

what they do is refusing the existing claims

so atheism can't be considered as a religion

denying a claim is not a belief

but what I don't understand is how can they be such sure

how can they be sure that all the claims are wrong

    I personally don't make claims

and don't totally deny all claims

for example: deists' claim seem rational: a supreme being not related to religions

    this can be true

how can I completely deny this?

    how can I be sure?

I even can't completely disprove religions' claims

a theist, a deist, an atheist

    they are all sure

an agnostic asks: how can you be so sure, all of you?

I think you are confusing Atheism (belief that there is no God) with Humanism (The belief that man is the supreme being and final authority of truth).

Atheism is more of a non belief whereas Humanism, as in Secular Humanism is a belief.

Religion is mans attempt to reach God or the ultimate truth that is out there. Therefore Secular Humanism and not necessarily Atheism would be properly seen as the religious faction of atheistic thought.

Religion is a belief that is shared by a group of people and they

govern their life by it. Atheism is one of these that is recognized

as such. Having said that - almost all people have no real thoughts on the subject and just sway the way the local wind is

blowing. An extremist Muslim born into a Baptist family and a

Baptist community would most likely just be a Baptist and have

no idea why, except the brain washing that is received by their

    peers.

A religion is defined as an institution with a framework of theological dogma-in what way does that apply to disbelief in the existence of God? Atheists of course don't need to prove anything because disbelief in any given proposition e.g. the existence of God, requires no evidence.

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
