I have water coming in through my basement walls, I just bought this house. What should I do next?

OK there are several ways to tackle this problem.First take a look at your gutters along the edge of the roof of your house to see if there clogged or broken(repair or replace if nec).Next look at the grade of the land and if it slopes away or towards your house(If it slopes toward your house you may need ground pvc drainage piping or sump pump in the the basement.There is waterproofing paint that is GUARANTEED to stop water intrusion on interior or exterior, vertical or horizontal concrete block, cast concrete, stucco and masonry surfaces for 10 years.Its called Zinsser watertight-lv.I believe home depot sells it at a moderate price per gallon.

They make a sealant for concrete that you can use to coat the entire basement wall where the water is coming in. You can get it at any hardware/home improvement store. I even saw it in the local Super Wal-mart recently. Make sure you coat the entire wall, not just where the house meets the foundation, because water can seep into the center of a concrete block in many ways.

Do contact your agent about the pre-existing condition and do see if insurance covers it. Insurance may pay for a company to come in and do it. Go that route if you can, because it can be messy and can be a pain to do it yourself.

Often the rain off the roof is the same into your basement, check the gutters and drainage away from building. How does your land slope? Retaining walls could be a solution, and of course water sealing of the foundation.

If that was a preexisting condition of the house the sellers should have disclosed before the papers were signed and could be held responsible for the repairs. Check it out. Call your real estate agent pronto.

Is the house under warranty? That should take care of it. Otherwise, try a sealant where the house meets the foundation. This happened to me, so I can sympathize!

if the water is really bad better contact home owners insurance if it's not that bad go to a home depot or something they carry a sealent like a paint epoxy u can try

Put it back on the market and kick the crap out of the real estate agent you used
