MD is an "allopath" which is the traditional doctor to most people.

DO is an "osteopath" which is a tradition incorporating things like chiropractic techniques. Osteopaths trained outside of the united states are not considered physicians.

MDs and DOs are both eligible for residency after completing medical school and can specialize in things like surgery, radiology, etc.

    Aloha

P.S. I looked at the site listed in the answer above and cannot agree with the "DO has an advantage" statement by whoever wrote that. Their description of DO training being "extra" is simply wrong.

medical doctor = MD, and an osteopathic doctor = DO
