Children's church help?

I was thinking of speaking to my Pastor about starting a children's church program on the nights our church has services, any ideas for activities? The kids will probably be in the age group of 2-10. Thanks

Songs with movement are a great group activity. You can check out your local library for christian children's music. Even some videos have songs with motions you can teach the kids, or just come up with our own. Remember that kids love to be silly, and you CAN be silly and still be praising God. VeggieTales are great for wide age groups. Also try finding a kids bible or perhaps some curriculum from a local christian bookstore. Pick the basic stories you find, then search on the interenet for coloring pages, songs, games, etc that might tie in with the topic. Example: if you're telling the tale of Jonah, print out some coloring pages of whales, have the kids write down things that God wants us to do and roll the paper up like scrolls (or help them write it), for a game - the cd from the veggietales movie "jonah" actually has a whale song at the end, the kids can dance around to the music and when "God says stop"(music stops), whoever keeps moving gets "eaten by the whale" and has to sit out. It still would be best to split the groups, but if that isn't possible have the older kids be "Heaven Helpers" and have them interact with the little ones, use a buddy system, etc.

Yes, you will need 3 other people to help you. The age span should be 2-4 same class, 5-7 another class and 8-10. Each service you should have something to teach about then do a color sheet or craft to do with the teaching. End the class with a snack and play time. that should get you started.

2-10 is a really wide age span.. You may need to break it down a bit. I keep ages 3-6 for our morning worship service and we color, make simple crafts and have a bible story. For the older ones you may can get some puzzles or maybe a scrabble game . I do not know of any activity that a 2 and 10 yr old would enjoy together.
