Best thing to do is ask yourself what you intend to use your computer for?
Theres a few things where you will need extra computing power, Games, Video Editing and number crunching
Now if youre one of those people that love the finer things than go for that duo core with all the trimmings. Or beteryet get yourself an alienware which would alow you to do pretty much anything out there.
I you dont plan on playing gmaes now, but might, then get one with a decent video chipset.
With upgrade-ability on RAM and unlimitied on external memory, the budget minded buyer could in fact get away with something like a 700 investment from any of the big computer companies - Dell, HP, etc.
If you need that DVD-RW and that huge screen, well those extras will cost you.
If you need something to do work, homework on, access internet, watch movies and what not...than it all comes down to what type of shopper you are.
But to cover just the basics -- minimal investment required

WTF? What - is the babe multiplying now? Bloody hell!
Anyhow, Toshiba has to be the best for normal usage to moderate desktop-replacement (especially the Sat Pro's).
When in come to high-end graphics, gaming or the real power usage there are only really two contenders - The high-end Toshiba Qosmia G35, or Alienware's m9700 either of those are to die for
