I pay not to get sexually explicit e-mails but still many get through how do I stop this?

It angers me to see such filth come to my e-mail address where It can be seen by my children or grandchildren. It embarrasses me haing to explain that I don't solicit to these sites they just pop up on my e-mails regularly. I'm also very Christian and am contemplating getting rid of my PC but am torn by it's neccesity.

These are two options available in Yahoo mail to counter spam.

    1) create filters

In yahoo mail go to options > mail options > Filters

Click on Add button to set a filter. Give a name to your filter.

You can create filters for the subject text that you receive often.

For example if you are receiving mail having viagra in the subject line. Then Add viagra in the text box in front of Text-contains- type viagra here. Leave the match case unchecked.

There are also filter options for checking words in header, body, of mail.

After that decide where the mail will go. In your case select the folder named trash as below.Then-Move The message To-select trash from the list.

Press Add Filter button when done.

You can set as many as 15 filters in yahoo mail.

    2) Block email addresses

    Login to your yahoo account.

Look at the top right corner of the window. You will see "options" written.

Click on it. (options > mail options), click OK to confirm in Ymail Beta.

A separate Mail options window will open.

There you will see Block Addresses written. Click on it.

In the next window that opens , you will see Add Block.

    Enter email address to block

<write the address here, for example someone@blockhim.com>

or copy and paste the address from the email received.

Click on the button named add block.

The address should appear in the box below.

That's it. You will no more receive any mail from that address which you have added to your blocked addresses list.

You can block as many as 500 addresses in Yahoo Mail.

How to unblock a blocked address

To Unblock, find the address in the box, and press Unblock button.

Check and see who the email is from and what the subject is. If you don't recognize the email address or the subject is blank or you're not sure what the subject means, just report it as spam or delete it. One should never open an email if they do not recognize the email address.

Umashanka is right, there should be a link to unsubscribe to these emails, but don't open the email just to get to that link. The other thing that you can do, is go to your email settings. Some email programs allow you to set it up so that only people on your contact list can email you, all others will either not be delivered or be delivered to your junk email folder automatically. Be sure to review your contact list and you recognize every email address on it. Any you do not recognize or do not wish to receive emails from, delete them.

The other thing you can do is to go into internet options, select the content tab, and then settings under the Content Advisor, and set it up so that you don't get content from adult sites, sites that are graphic, or use offensive language. It is a good idea to set a password for this section when prompted so that other users cannot go in and change it on you.

First, if you are paying for a filter agent, and the messages are still getting through, be sure that you report them to whoever is doing your filtering so they can adjust. Spammers move their sites often - sometimes on an hourly basis - so keeping ahead of them is a challenge. (I know, I do computer IT for a living).

One of the best ways to avoid spam is to use the feature in your e-mail which only allows the address you choose to come through. Everything else is marked as "spam" and dumped into your "spam" or "bulk" folder (Different name with different services). You can that check that folder in private for anything that you want to "unspam".

I know that feeling of wanting to get rid of all the garbage that tries to invade your PC daily, and yet needing it for other things. I have yet to find a way to stop the filth from coming, but I have made the commitment not to let it get from the screen to my heart. I had a change to talk with the late Dr Ed Cole shortly before he past away. The subject of computers and the Internet came up, and he said that he had solved the problem by sitting down with his computer, and receiving communion in front of it, as a sign of dedication that he would not allow its filth to get into his heart. While it did not reduce the spam, Dr Cole said that it did reduce the temptation from them. I can testify that it does help.

    Who are you paying?

If it's an ISP (or some other company) then report it as spam - you can't expect them to go through all your e-mails to find the ones you shouldn't get.

If it's a piece of software, then you need to find the 'report as spam' or similar feature in it.

If it's any help, i've had two pieces of spam into my GMail inbox in two years, the rest skips my inbox and goes straight into my spam box.

why don't you shortlist the email ids of people who are relevant to you so only their mails to reach your inbox. the rest gets classified as spam, you can check your spam regularly in privacy and the relevant mails can then be unspammed for the future.

you may also want to try gmail which is a little better than the others.
