Religion is not the cause of violent relation between societies. Do you agree?

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov 13 (AP) Politics _ and not religion _ is at the heart of the growing rift between the West and the Muslim world, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Monday after scholars, politicians and religious leaders convened to discuss ways to improve the increasingly violent relations between the societies.

I think it's a combination of both politics and religion. This is especially the case when certain people in power use religion as a means for furthering their political goals.

How about the many hundreds of Shiites and Sunnis killing each other in Iraq right now. I agree that religion is the dividing line between the two groups but the real reason for the killing is power.

The rift between the Muslims and the West is not politics, but murder. Muslims have been murdering Westerners with all the bombings of embassies the Towers, railroads, and a lot more.

Saving yourself from murder is not politics. We have been told over and over that Islam will be the world religion and violence is the way it will be forced onto non-Muslims. So, I'll have to disagree with you. I'll say it is religion that's at fault.

    No, I do not agree.

Differences of religious belief (often extremely minor) have often been the cause of violence between societies for thousands of years, pretty much as long as there have been societies.

That someone chooses to embed their religious beliefs into a nation's political system doesn't change the fact that religion is at the root of the political differences.

Religion has been the rally cry to defend more atrocities throughout the history of mankind than all other excuses put together.

    No Religion, Know Peace.

You must be either kidding or unconscious. Any religion with a substantial number of children in religious schools teaching mostly hate for another religion or group of people is the cause of violence. If you do not believe it you are part of the problem.

Religion and politics aren't really that different. Each follows an ideology, and each has an agenda.

Yes I agree religion has nothing to do with it between our countries but religious fanatics started it. Once the fanatics stop what they are doing we'll all possibly be at peace.
