Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

LOL. i don't know! you a very right! i think it's one of those opposite sayings, like quit as a mouse!! mice are not quit! expecily at night when you are trying to sleep!!!!

Well not all babies wake up every two hours. After a few months they sleep through the night and when they do--there's usually no waking them! That's why people say "slept like a baby" because they were probably in a deep sleep and felt well rested after.

They slept like the babies that sleep peaceful all night not like the new born babies that wake up every 2 hours.

I only say I slept like a baby when I do wake up every two hours in my own pee craving milk

I think the actual saying is "sleeping like a baby". They say this because when you look at a sleeping baby they seem so peaceful.

AMEN!! I remember when my son was a newborn, and people kept saying "sleep when he sleeps." Yeah, that was, um, never.

It's right up there with why we park in driveways and drive on parkways and all that stuff.

OH- my husband thought I should add this- the saying comes from earlier generations. You know, the ones that gave their kids bourbon for teething. So, you know, maybe kids used to be drunk all the time. And drunks sleep well, so there you go...

In Europe most people are saying slept like a dead.

people have so many issues on their mind that interfere w/ a potetially good night sleep. babies really dont have any issues - lucky them. As for why they wake up all night, i have no clue.

That is a darn good question. I just commented on that to my mother this weekend. I'd rather sleep like a rock.

Babies tend to sleep so soundly.
