What is the difference between MB,GB,KB?

Could someone tell me the difference of the different bites. Can they be converted into hours and minutes? Downloading music and video to burn and would like to be able to figure out how to compile the right amount of bites before I start to burn, don't know much about this area and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks....Doug

    A bit (binary digit) refers to a digit in the binary numeral system, which consists of base 2 digits (ie. There are only 2 possible values: 0 or 1).

    MB means Megabit

    GB means Gigabit

    KB means Kilobit

    1 kilobit = 1,000 bit.

    1 megabit = 1,000,000 bits

    1 gigabit = 1,000,000,000 bits

    U cont measure size in minutes. If u want to burn first measue size(right click on file & select properties . Check size) . U cont burn more than 700mb into a cd. dvd limit is 4.7gb.

    1024 bytes =1 KB

    1024 KB =1 MB

    1024 MB= 1 GB

    1024 GB = 1 TB

    1024 TB = 1 PB

    This ones correct:

    1GB = 1000MB = 1000000KB

    from the first person to answer. This is simply a measure of how big the file is (in your case, a music file.) Most music I have downloaded is around 4,000-5,000 KB large and they are mostly 3-5 minute songs :). Your burner doesn't indicate the free and used space before you actually burn so I suggest that you compute the size of all the songs and compare it with the capacity of your cd. With 4-5 minute songs, most cds will take around 18 songs.

    KB = 2(raised)10 = 1024 Bytes

    MB = 2(raised)20 = 1024 * 1024 Bytes

    GB = 2(raised)30 = 1024 * 1024 * 1024 Bytes

    For simplicity's sake, 1024 is usually approximated to 1000.

    raised - means - to the power of (i.e.)

    2(raised)3 = 2*2*2
