Help on Sewing pattern!!?

Sewers are usually the type of people who never throw anything out! Check with some 60-year-olds you know, and see if they have anything they'd like to give you.

Another idea: Flylady.net is a website that helps people deal with clutter. And patterns from the 60s would be definitely on the clutter side for most older people. Each state has it's own yahoo chat group (I think) and if you join the chat, you might be able to send a call for help out. You both win this way -- the flybabies get to declutter their houses, and you get free patterns.

Also, the 60s are kind of in-style right now, so many modern patterns might work for what you are looking for. The basic sheath dress, for example. You just have to imagine the pictures on the cover in Pucci (-:.

You only need to go to a fabric store like Jo Ann's and buy a pattern for something in your size, or in the size you want to make. Of course you're also going to need stuff like sewing scissors, thread, fabric and pins. You'll consult with the person cutting fabric about how much you need. Also, I would try to avoid anything with a zipper or buttons in the beginning. Those are going to take a little bit of experience to master. When you get it all home, pre-shrink 100% cotton fabric first by washing it hot and using a hot dryer. Iron it and lay the fabric out according to the instructions given. Cut out your pattern pieces (just the ones you need), and lay them out according to the instructions, pin them and cut. Then follow instructions given. They might not be so clear when you are first starting. If you don't have an experienced person who sews to advise you, try to find help on Websites. (some listed below)

What kind of 60s pattern are you looking for. I don't know of any free pattern sites, but I do have quite a few old patterns myself as well as my mother. You can also log into the simplicity, McCall's etc websites to view and order patterns. they do have discontinued ones. Also I have found that the costume section of the patterns have old clothing. Try eBay too.

I don't know of any free pattern sites, for sewing patterns that is. I sew a lot and believe me, I'd find them.

This is an excellent site, it has a bazillion patterns, no free, but from the sixties, seventies, fifties = atleast you could get some free ideas.

Maybe you could try Simplicity, I found one of there old books at a garage sale and it's a 60's 70's thing, maybe they do that on line. Good luck.
