Jails don't have wardens - prisons have wardens. Jail has administrative positions but the top job is Sheriff. As for other positions, you can be a correctional officer and you can work different positions as a CO. You can work the floors - you can work transport = taking the inmates to and from court/hospital. You can also work intake and releasal (doing all the paperwork for the inmates that are coming in and leaving. If you have a medical background you can work in the medical dept. There is also classification (to see where the inmates should be housed depending on their medical status or if they are gang related/violent or low risk). I am not sure if the ID dept is considered civilian or if they are officers (they get the finger prints & photos and forward copies of arrest reports to other law enforcement agencies. They also have some civilian positions - such as in the kitchen. I am sure that there are alot of other positions, those are just some that I could think of. They pay isn't much and the population that you have to deal with can be tough at times. Over all I would think its a good job. There is certainly job security in that field!
