Car wont start. bad fuel pump?

My car never had this problem until just a couple days ago and ive had it for about four months. i parked it on a flat one night and came out to start it and it would start. it would click so its not the starter or the battery so i think the fuel is just not getting to the engine. it works fine when i park nose down on the hill in front of me at night but if i park it on a flat with less than half a tank of gas it wont go unless you give it a lot of gas. it drives fine up hill an on flats as long as it gets going. im just about to replace the fuel pump but i dont want to spend the 150 dollars until i know its going to solve the problem. also does anyone have any good forums or site thatll show me exactly what i need to do to replace the fuel pump?

It might be the fuel filter. Try that first. They are usually pretty cheap. Sometimes you can clean them by just running some gas or carb cleaner through it backwards. A lot of cars also have a one way valve in the fuel line. Check that as well. If that doesn't solve the problem it's almost curtainly the pump

Take the fuel line off at the carburetor. Try starting the car. If fuel pumps out the pump is working. If not it isn't. Check your fuel line all the way to the gas tank first, to make sure there are no kinks or holes in it. If air gets in your line it will not work also.

Any variety of those would desire to be the subject, undesirable gas pump, clogged gas clear out, clogged air clear out, a possibility gas pump relay, undesirable timing belt, defective computing device, undesirable crank sensor, undesirable coil etc. would desire to rather have a foul gas gauge and the tank may be empty.
