I used the wrong oil and now my car is smoking. Help?

2004 Dodge Stratus, it is suppose to use 5W-30. I accidently used 5W-20. It was in the engine for 24hrs and I realized the error and change both oil and filter, but now it's smoking. What should I do? Thanks

Update:

Smoke is coming from under the hood, not tailpipes. It wasn't smoking before and I did spill a bit.

Drive it, chances are it was smoking before and you just didn't notice it. The 5W-20 could not have hurt it.

if you spilled a bit, your question is answered. It will burn off.

Going from 5W-30 to 5W-20 wont make that much of a difference, especially since both are 5W, which is very thin by the way.

You don't have a leak do you? The other answer might be correct, smoke can be a result of spilled oil burning off the engine when it gets hot.

Is it coming out of the exhaust or under the hood? If its coming out of the exhaust then something else must have happened.

relax, to change the viscosity to a lower oil (5w20) in no way could have made your car smoke. If it is coming from the tail pipe, it was doing it before, you might just have noticed it. If it is not smoking from the tailpipe, you probably just spilled some on the exhaust.

LOL you spilled oil and it leaked over onto your exhauste manifold.....just chill let it run while parked until it burns off or if you spilled a lot use mean green (wal mart) to spray on engine then rinse it off. Better to just let it burn off unless it is a lot of it.

the use of 5w20 over 5w30 will absolutely not cause smoking. I think it is just burn off from where you spilled.
