throwing away personal items?

Hi, I'm in the process of moving, & therefore have to attempt at throwing out old unnecessary things. However, I'm a bit overwhelmed in some of these items cuz I'm just not sure what's safe to keep & what's not! Part of the problem is that I'm not even really sure how old some of this stuff is cuz a lot of it was given to me... at least a few years ago, if not more on some others. I just ended up keeping a lot of them "just in case", but obviously I never got around to using some of them, plus a lot of them don't have any dates on them. So in general, what's safe to keep & what should be thrown out, & why? Also, what's the longest span of time you can keep such items? Here's a sample:

- deodorant

- toothpaste

- perfume

- makeup, like lipstick/lipgloss, eyeshadow, etc.

- lotion

- whitening products

- dated vitamins & antacid tablets

- mentholatum ointment

- hair dye (permanent & semi)

- antibiotic ointment

- scented powder

- vaginal cream

Thanks!

One year or less for these things.

    Vitamins before the expiration date.

I suggest that you toss them all except what you have used in the last few months - if you used a cream that ended up burning or hurting you in some way it would not be worth the few dollars you would save "just in case"

Buy only what you need and don't stock up!

Throw out anything you'd be putting inside you or near sensitive parts.

So toothpaste, antibiotic cream, vaginal cream, whitening products, mascaras etc.

Or anything with acids or harsh ingredients. So hair dye, deodorant, whitening stuff.

    Perfume can keep for aaaages.

Those should ALL have dates on them though.

Especially the lotions and medical creams.

Deodorant somewhere on the bottle, whitening somewhere on the box, toothpaste along the ridge at the bottom usually, hair dye printed on the box.

The things you've posted are really unimportant and can all be bought again as you need them. If you really like something like a shade of makeup, keep it. Otherwise throw it out.

There's no point keeping things if they're out of date or if they are going to possible give you a reaction. You're better to not risk it.

edit: I agree with the other poster. They are generally good UP TO (but no more than) 1 year after you opened the items.

It's not that I threw it away.. just ruined it. It was a little blue, glittery butterfly clip that my Grandpa bought for me when I was about 6 years old. I was bored & pulled the spring & it got ruined. I felt guilty for weeks, heck, I still feel guilty!! Also, another thing from my Grandpa, was a little stuffed Seal that he bought for me on one of his fishing (catch & release only!!) trips to Canada.. I lost it & haven't been able to find it & it makes me so sad!! It reminds me of him & my youth.. he's still around, which is good, so it's not like if he weren't *knock on wood* & that's one of the few things I'd have to remember him by..♥
