Unfortunately ACE inhibitors can cause a headache and a very dry irritable cough in about 10% of users. The cough is not dangerous, and usually stops when the medication is changed or discontinued by the doctor. There are also medications such as Picotamide (currently being researched and not available in the U.S. yet) that can stop or reduce coughing when discontinuing medication is not an option.
