Ice or no ice?
Should you take the time to read about scotch whisky you will find that many people rcommend avoiding ice because its addition will make the drink taste flat. They say this is because ice closes the flavor molicules in whisky.
Thus, many people (I included) say you should not add ice to whiskey because it results in a flat taste. Furthermore, if you have been adding ice to your whiskey you have not yet experienced the drink with all of its full flavors.
I like to add water because it provides an unbelievable range of tastes. What do you like? Straight whisky, water, or ice and why?

neat. single malts require nothing but a fine glass with which to drink it from. blends require a mixer or water cause they're rough.

Cooling beverages with ice is a modern invention which is why so many purists insist on no ice. In Great Britain they drink warm beer so warm Scotch is a given. Alas as an American raised with modern appliances I like ice and if one drinks it fast enough it doesn't taste flat.
Peace..

The way I drink my whiskey is in the form of baileys with ice. A lot of ladies are not aware that Baileys contains whiskey.
