Is it true that the Buckingham Palace guards fur hats are continuously growing and need to be trimmed yearly?

I have heard that those huge hats are made by bear furs and they are continously growing up because the skins are not chemichally treated and because of that a barber would trimm the hats every year, otherwise the guards would not be able to see from undeneath the hats.

It doesnt matter if its chemically treated or not.. fur cant grow once the skin it grows on has no blood supply.

However, the hats ( the proper name for them is "bearskins" ) ARE trimmed occasionally, just to keep them in good shape.

Huh? How does hair grow from a dead skin?? This is the most curious thing I've heard all day.
