Does there need to be more emphasis put on teaching people to drive a car?

There seems to be more terrible drivers on the road lately than normal. What factors do you think are contributing to this?

Great question! They spend 3 months teaching them to drive before turning them loose, 12 years preaching the evils of sex, drugs and alcohol.

But driving 100 mph isn't a social epidemic because the person usually dies before they get busted 3-10 times, where as sex, drugs, and alcohol, they usually get caught a lot more, because although it is a risky lifestyle, it doesn't wrap your corpse around a tree, and only if it is combined with a car, then they blame it on the embarrassing social situation that you have created for yourself. Yeah they need more driver education.

Source(s): Driving is a privilege, not a right granted by God or the constitution. (I said it, and I stand behind it!)

Oh yeah! I heard a radio interview on the future of our cars and how much smarter our cars are going to become, yet as little time as is possible is spent educating people on how to drive and simple road etiquette. Personally, I think everyone getting a license needs to spend 3 days in a driving school similar to Bob Bondurant or Skip Barber. An ABS braking system on a car is a great thing in the rain, but if the driver panics or isn't paying attention, the system is almost useless.

There is more bad drivers because there is more people on the road. You sound like me. When I learned how to drive there weren't all that many people on the road. Now I'm getting to the point where I don't want to drive anymore. Good driving comes with many years of experience. Teaching can only "steer" one in the right direction. The rest is up to the individual.
