whats wrong with my car? need help please..i have a 1997 chevy camaro. 3.8 v6 fuel injected engine. wont start
I HAVE A FUEL INJECTED 1997 CHEVY CAMARO. 3.8 V6 MOTOR. I HAVE PUT 3 COIL PACKS, 3 NEW IGNITION MODULES, 2 NEW CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS, NEW PLUGS, NEW WIRES ON IT AND IT STILL DOES NOT RUN RIGHT. I HAD SOME GOOD ANSWERS WHEN I LAST ASKED A SIMILIAR QUESTION BUT THEY DIDNT WORK OUT. AFTER PUTTING THE COIL PACKS ON AND THE IGNITION MODULE ON AND THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR ON AND NEW PLUGS AND WIRES I WENT OUT TO TRY AND SEE IF IT WOULD START. IT WOULDNT. SO I GOT UPSET AND LEFT IT BE A COUPLE DAYS. WENT OUT YESTERDAY AND GOT IN IT AND THE FIRST CRANK IT FIRED RIGHT UP AND RAN LIKE A NEW ONE. I DROVE IT AROUND TOWN A FEW MINUTES AND CAME BACK HOME. WHEN I GOT HOME I SHUT IT OFF AND JUST FOR KICKS I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. IT WOULD NOT START. IT JUST SAT THERE TURNING OVER BUT NO FIRE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS. IT CANT BE MUCH I WOULDNT THINK. I JUST DONT KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN TO LOOK. IF ANYONE CAN HELP I SURE WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP.

Fuel Pump or Fuel Pump Relay. They get old and start acting erratically. Will start one day and not another time, or run great and then suddenly run like crap, or not crank at all and then will crank. No telling how many parts get bought because the fuel pumps aren't working on GM products. Make sure next time you go to crank it that the pump is working and also that the 'pressure" is the right pressure using a test guage. The pump can run all day, but if the pressure isn't right then will never open the valves in the injectors to fire gas in no matter how much electricity the injectors get. You mentioned that this is not "firing, but can't tell if you mean that it is actually not "sparking the plugs" or simply not firing up and running. If the plugs are not actually firing then you should check both the computer, and the wiring harness where it plugs in with those dozens of wires. THe GM wiring harnesses on those have bad connectors that will cause parts of the computer to cut out and even just a change in temp can stop them from working. You can wiggle the big wiring plugs where they go into the computer assembly and see if that helps. If it does then you are on the right track. S-10's are also heavily subject to this for some reason.

I had a problem like that years back. Turned out there was a small spot on the bottom of my rotor. The piece that is under your distributor cap. It was shorting out the electrical system sporadically so my plugs were not get any fire. Try changing that.
This was a simple problem that took me a lot of time to find. Never had a electrical problem with the car again.

i had a car and i didnt know it, but it wouldnt start because of the timing chain. i didnt know until i checked the sparks, when it or in my case didnt fire. then with the fuel pump, turn you car to on and dont start it all the way go you the tank and leason for the pump. if you hear it it works if not then your goin to have to replace it. of if you cant hear it find a place to unhook a gas line and see if it pumps it.

Please don`t type in caps. it means you are shouting or mad on the computer. In your case i would now start thinking about fuel supply. Starting with fuel filter, weak fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator. If it was running well, and now won`t, It could be running rich or the choke system is staying on. Have a fun day today. Don`t forget about the caps will ya.

check the wires that go to the battery.
check alt.
check belts.
the same thing happend to my ex's car ('97 camaro) and his daughter could start it everytime by using a wrench and banging on something (i can call her to find out what she banged on if you would like - and get back to you).
check the thing in the front that holds the water. (like i would know what it's called? my husband is the mechanic - not me)
