Does anyone else think that Yahoo Answers shouldn't have "points"?
People come on here to ask serious questions and to receive serious answers. I am really tired of seeing the lamest answers on here just because people want another two points. Does anyone else agree?
And yes, please say whatever you want to flame me or make another stupid remark to get your two points, but just remember, the serious posters more often receive ten :)

To an extent I agree. But then Y!A would not have any other means to attract persons to use the site. The points system affects individuals in different ways. Many people are motivated by the points - I am like that at times, especially when I am close to going on another level. Sometimes you do get caught answering a question just for the 2 points. Some QUESTIONS are like that. Others just don't give a hoot.
But at times people try to give an honest answer and need some form of reward, hence the 2 points, and 10 for the best! There are those who abuse Y!A and don't deserve the points....but as with everything in the world, nothing is perfect and you will find those who take advantage of a good thing.
If Yahoo! finds another way to reward persons giving answers, I would welcome it, but until then points are the way to go!

Yes I agree, I also don't understand the reason for a point system. It is ridiculous when some people ask a question and then the idiot repliers go "it's because you're gay." so lame. Maybe the questions are dumb to them, but the reason for this forum is to get answers to anything from people all around the world. Ok I'll get get off my soapbox now.

Well, I always try to give serious, well-considered answers -- but I DO love those points. And, unfortunately, I believe that the idiots out there that like to "flame" and such -- would still continue to do. Just in the nature of the beast, I guess! Go on some chat sites, boards, etc. & you'll see what I mean.

Think of it this way (and many others) it's all about the buck. In order to make this "thing" popular, Yahoo! had to build an incentive in it so their sponsors as well as their market share grows or makes money. Of course the points are meaningless to most but if you consider the PERCENTAGE of "best answers" that means something to me. Having tons of points for answers like "no" or whatever moronic answer one can think of is pretty easy (especially if you spend a lot of time here) but if your percentage is high for good answers it probably means you answer seriously and are usually correct or to the point if it is more of an opinion. So this is what I do: I totally ignore points and when I look at a profile I look at their percentage, that means something to me. I also take time to read answers, especially best answers, that tells you a lot about the user. For example: hover your mouse over "Yahzmin's" avatar, consider her percentage and also the quantity of good answers, right away you would know that she can be taken seriously or that a LOT of people think so. It's my way. :-)

I see your point. Some participants don't really know the answer to most questions here so they decide to be smart@sses instead just to claim their two points. It really sucks but I wouldn't sweat it too much because the points are really useless anyway.

Why might you prefer an "person" area? teenagers can help answer (maximum) questions you ask besides as any person and to boot each and all the underage clientele might purely create a sparkling account and say they have been born in the 70's or something. good theory nonetheless.

That's too funny. Yes, I agree. It doesn't get me as mad as you. All kinds of people make the world go round. That's what makes this site interesting and fun.

More points. More action.
