Can anyone explain the rightist obsession with beating dead horses?

There's a lot of people here and elsewhere who spend a lot of time attacking John Kerry for anything they can use against him. The 2004 election is over.

There are even people who feel the need to attack Al Gore. It's not 2000.

I still hear a lot of complaints about "Hanoi Jane' (1971) and Chappaquiddick (1969). LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!

Even people who whimper, "Roosevelt tried to pack the Supreme Court!" It was 1937. He floated an idea. It went nowhere. LET IT GO!

What's wrong with right-wingers that they not only live in the past, but think they can rewrite it if they can only grouse enough about it?

Update:

Democrats don't reach as far into the past as Republicans do. Bush, after all, is still President, and he revived Reaganomics. Democrats would be as bad as Republicans if they kept kicking Bob Dole, and complaining about Calvin Coolidge's policies.

Ultra-right wingers (not all conservatives) live in the past. The ideal right-wingnut's world is 1950, with nuclear/military proliferation, women largely stuck at home baking pot roasts and popping out kids, and minorities keeping their place.

They're also angry hatemongers, always going for the jugular in the most inane, childish fashion. Look at how popular Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Phyllis Schafly all are with the conservatives. Combine these two facets and you've got a bunch of sore losers whose only delight is in rehashing old foes, when it's essentially pointless.

You can substitute democrats for republicans in the first 3 paragraphs of Beach Bum's answer, and it will still be true.

    It's called politics!

In the fourth paragraph, apparently most of the country has half a brain, since everybody, including Hillary sanctioned Kerry for his brash words.

I have seen many questions and slams relating to Nixon and Reagan, btw. And there's no reason to reach far into the past when they blame EVERYTHING, including natural disasters and terrorist attacks, on Bush.

You had me for a 2d. i presumed I understood what beating a ineffective horse meant, then I learn your comments and figured I had greater advantageous useful make helpful i grew to alter into into perfect till at last now I suggested something. the beating is flogging and not opposition. It has to do with whipping it to make it techniques or bypass. It would not could choose to do with a race. I even have below no circumstances crushed or raced a horse ineffective or alive. I even have smacked my cow mutually as she would not get out of the storage and end eating each and all the feed saved there. Does that count quantity style?

Left wingers still obsess over President G.W. Bush "stealing" the election in 2000, and say that he "dodged the draft", while he was in the National Guard during the time.

    They also constantly bash "Reaganomics".

It's not as one sided as you might want it to be...

"Democrats don't reach as far into the past as Republicans do."

So - are you a relativist or just trying to point out that the far-left wingers have drug-addled memories or kinda, sorta zoned-out during their "history" classes?

We simply beat 'em because we don't want to be a victim of those who forget history.

Note: Obsession with beating dead donkeys would have been a more appropriate question.

You failed to mention the Bill Clinton thrashing we still hear occasionally.

I am of the mind-frame that Republicans like to play the game of 'beat down the democrats' no matter if it makes any sense or not. They play this game in order to win.. win at any cost even if it cost America in the end.

For them winning is about their party winning and not what is best for the country in the end. Seriously, look whom they elected. All so they could say 'ha ha we won'. No thoughts of .. well maybe the other guy might do better for all of us.

Take Kerry for example, anyone of half a brain knows Kerry would never trash the military. The man has two purple hearts and was shot in the Vietnam War. Yet, you hear them play their game of blah blah.. quite sad if you ask me.

Its to take the spotlight off the real pressing issues:

    Tax breaks for the richest

No universal health care for americans

    The murderous war in Iraq

Destruction of democracy in our own country

and of course I could go on for a year of Sundays....
