Wi-Fi® (also WiFi, wifi, etc.) is a brand originally licensed by the Wi-Fi Alliance® to describe the underlying technology of wireless local area networks (WLAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. It was developed to be used for mobile computing devices, such as laptops, in LANs, but is now increasingly used for more services, including Internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and basic connectivity of consumer electronics such as televisions and DVD players, or digital cameras. More standards are in development that will allow Wi-Fi to be used by cars in highways in support of an Intelligent Transportation System to increase safety, gather statistics, and enable mobile commerce (see IEEE 802.11p). Wi-Fi® and the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ logo are registered trademarks of the Wi-Fi Alliance® - the trade organization that tests and certifies equipment compliance with the 802.11x standards.

Wifi is a generic term for a wireless computer network.
It doesn't really have a look. To use Wifi, you need at least two things: a wireless router and a computer with a wireless network card.
You may hear terms like 802.11 a/g/b. That just indicates what protocols the router supports. Different standards have different speeds, but this is irrelevant unless you're tranfering data to other computers on your network. Most broadband connects are 6Mbps or less, so even the slowest protocol is more than abdequate for an internet connection (the slowest protocol is 11 Mbps).
A wireless router can be bought just about anywhere these days. NetGear and LinkSys wireless routers are what most people seem to get, usually $50 or less.
Most computers nowadays come with wireless support. If yours does not, then you can buy a wireless network card. Again, NetGear and Linksys are the popular ones and you can get a card for less than $50.
This will set you up with a wireless network. In order to connect to the internet you will need to have a broadband internet connection. You run a LAN cable from your cable/DSL modem and plug it into the wireless router.
There are some other settings you may want to perform on your router (like setting up security), but that varis from model to model so you'll need to read the instructions.

Wi-Fi is short for Wireless fidelity. It is also called as Wireless LAN, which eliminates the use of wires to form a LAN. We can use it by having wifi enabled devices and access point. if you want technical info tell me.
