What plan did you create with a new teen driver to feel less stress about a new teen driver in your house.?

with so many teens involved in auto accidents, I have a high anxiety level about this although my son is taking professional lessons and seems to be taking it all seriously. But who knows what happens when I'm out of sight?

With all of our teenagers, we have 3 who are driving, we applied the same rules. Our state requires them to have their license 90 days before they are allowed to have a passenger in the car. We upped that with a "road trip" journal. They have to log 1500 miles of driving in a notebook kept in the car. Also they have to call when they reach their destination and again before leaving to come home(we need to know where they are going to be and it also helps to gauge how long it takes them to get home).

Drivers Ed is also a great idea. Teens seem to take the info from those classes much more seriously than if that info comes from their parents.

As a parent you are going to worry no matter how long your kid has been driving but if your child is responsible in other aspects of their life (grades, friends) than it is a little bit easier to hand them the car keys.

We decided that he couldn't drive without one of us in the car even though he had his official license. He has to wait a year before we think about anything else.

A very bad car accident changed my life forever, I'm hoping my children will be more cautious after seeing everything I've gone through.

Anyone irregardless of age can have an accident. No one has control of a persons fate or what they decide to do including our sons/daughters as they are individual people.

    I think he'll do fine.

just make sure you tell him to not drink and rive. im not saying that he drinks but most teens drink if they go to a party. make sure you tell that before he drinks and drives, that you will pick him up from anywhere on the world just to make sure he doesnt drive when drunk.

another thing, make sure you actually practice driving with him. its good b/c then you can teach him to be a curteous driver and all that good stuff.

    thats about all.

Its normal to feel worried about your son driving. And I'm not going to lie to you, anything could happen. However, most likely everything will be fine. Everytime before he leaves just tell him that you love him and to be careful.
