How do parking ticket officers know how long you've been parked in one spot?

They mark the tires with chalk as they go around. If your tires are still marked when they come back around when your car should be gone, that is when they write you a ticket.

Easy. The uniformed meter maids of the city go around

on motorized mopeds, to cover the

various street parking availabilities, and simply wield a wand, in which the tip contains a colored piece of chalk, she simply marks each side wall of a tire of a car (one tire only) and continues on.

When she encounters this same parking spot, on her next round, and that colored chalk mark is still there, the car now becomes in violation of the the parking limit, and issues a citation

on the spot.

Usually the time limit is two hours, and if left beyond the time limit,

it becomes a chargeable infraction.

Don't try to scratch it off, the city authorities are hip on what

some motorists think they can get away with.

Look for a chalk mark on one of the tires. Someone in a Cushman scooter usually drives a route, passing the area every hour or two and leaves a mark. If they return and they find a car with a chalkmark, they issue a parking citation.

I've heard of copy-cat crimes, but copy-cat answers? Chalk, chalk, and more chalk. Should I get a point by saying "chalk on the tire" too??? Nah. The first answer was the most original! I can't top this. Just be careful where you park! In most small towns, they don't give tickets in the rain.

Check your rear outboard tire next time you get a ticket and I think that you may find a yellow chalk mark on it. He marks all parked cars and returns after the limit time has passed and cites all cars with chalk marks.

Yes.. they mark your tire with chalk... BUT.. they mark the time on the tire with chalk. For example.... if it was noon, they would tick you tire in the noon position. If it was 3, they would itck it in the 3 position, etc. So if they personally don't come back around, any officer can see what time you've been there since.

most drive around in circles and have a stick with chalk on the end .when they pass your car they put a little mark on your tire.if they come back to the same spot in the time alloted and the car is still there.

From what i know they can only judge this by timing you from the moment they spot your car. They record the vehicle registration number and key it back in on their next visit to see how long you've been there.

the police go around in circles marking ur car every like 2 hours and mark it that is how they know!
