What are the lyrics to an old song (possibly) called "Let nellie Sleep Under the Bar?"?
My father used to sing this, it was considered a naughty song THEN. (fifties, sixties)and concerned an old barfly who came to a bar at closing and begged to be able to sleep there, under the bar. Some of the lyrics are "Let nellie sleep under the bar, Let Nellie sleep under the bar, Remember your mother and your sisters too...Let Nellie sleep under the bar.." I have looked for this all over with google and have found nothing on it. Anyone?

I think it looks like it's an old military (Air Force?) song, as well as a college drinking song called "The Lady in Red." Here are the lyrics:
'Twas a cold winter's evening,
The guests were all leaving,
O'Leary was closing the bar.
When he turned and he said,
To the Lady in Red,
"Get out you can't stay anymore."
She wept a sad tear
In her bucket of beer,
as she thought of the cold night ahead.
When an angler quite dapper,
Stepped out of the crapper,
And these were the words that he said:
"Her mother never told her,
The things a young girl should know.
About the ways of fishin' men,
And how they come and go,
Mostly go."
"Age has taken her beauty,
sin has left it's sad scar.
So remember your mothers,
To hell with the others,
And let her sleep under the bar!"
(Sorry, but "Nellie" is not mentioned specifically in the songs I have found.)
