if you have a gas log set installed and obtain the necessary permits, are you then covered under your?
homeowners insurance for any problems with that or do you have to inform your homeowners insurance company that you had it installed to be covered?
sorry if this wasnt clear, i am referring to the house being covered if it burned down, not referring to fixing the gas log set if it broke.

Well your homeowners' policy will cover problems that arise because of the gas log...like if it starts a fire that damages your home.
But if you are looking to your insurance policy to pay for fixes to the actual fireplace itself, you are looking in the wrong place.
Many times, the gas utility in your area will sell a 'coverage plan' that covers repairs and replacement of certain applicance including gas fireplaces as long as you pay a certain monthly fee along with your utility bill.
This has nothing to do with insurance, however.

The homeowners policy is NOT a maintenance contract, if that's what you are asking. If the gas log set is purchased and installed, and then blows the house up, the resulting explosion is covered (although they'll no doubt go after the installation company). A resulting fire is also covered. Fire/water/explosion damage is covered. But if there's a fire, and the insurance company says, oh, this is installed wrong, they do NOT pay to have it re-installed correctly. You have to do that.

Inform the insurance company to be sure. You are gambling a few dollars increased premium vs. the cost to replace your whole house, if something happens and they decide to not honor the policy.

it truly is completely depending on the community amendments to the progression code as followed by your municipality. call your community progression branch and ask. there is not any opposite direction to understand for sensible, because each and every community will be distinct with their criteria.
