How do I ask my boss for a raise?

okay im glad i got your ? because im going through the same stuff... and i work in retail and its tough believe it or not...they slave.. but yea.. what you want to do is call your Human Resources Dept. and find out wat the low end and high end salary is for your position and then have a negotiating meeting with your boss. If your too afraid to call.. u can pretend your a student and say your doing a survey for your economics class! always works! hahah

I am hoping you just goofed when you put this in Singles/Dating. You better not be dating the boss.

DO NOT mention your pay in comparison to other co-workers'. You need to present your qualities on the job, maybe a job description that you make up that covers most of what you do, and perhaps do a little research on what the average pay is for that job in your city or state. The main library might be able to help you with that as states often put out publications showing that. Then use that as a tool as well. You Do have to consider the size of the company you work for and their profit margin. You cannot just say everyone at Apple Computer makes this much and try to compare that to a little mom-and-pop store.

You go to him and say I have been here three years doing a good job, I think I deserve a bit more. I'm thinking about sending a resume to (competition) to see if they would pay me a bit more. I like it here and like you as a boss and would want to stay.

He or she says back, I like having you as am employee and I wish I could give you a bit more. Its just not in the budget and the store is not earning that much lately. If you feel you want to send resumes, I'll write you a good recommendation.

If I had a company I would have profit sharing checks, every month or quarter.

Put together a list of your accomplishments and awards you have received from the company. If you have any compliments from customers, ask they write them down and send them in to your boss. In order to receive a raise your boss is going to want to know why you should receive one and what you have done. Don't tell him it's because the crew makes almost as much as you. Let your work speak for itself.

I sent an email to my immediate manager, detailing exactly what I was doing for the company, the successes I'd had and the additional work I'd recently taken on board. She was really understanding and got me a raise within a week.

Just tell your boss you would like to have a talk with him about some things. Remind him of how much extra work you do for him and that you would love it if he would consider giving you a raise. It never hurts to ask and please pray about this before doing so. GOD works in mysterious ways. If you have good attendance and never late that would also be a good reason to ask for a raise and remind him of it. Good Luck!

Tell your boss how much you enjoy working there and ask him his opinion on your work performance. See if you can try to do more for him and that might trigger him to raise your salary.

Make sure you have specific examples of what you do... Go into as if you are preparing for a court case.

Since you posted this in Singles & Dating...are you intrested in him? Perhaps if y'all went out, he'd be receptive to giving you an increase.
