    I believe sample mean refers to the topic of standard deviation. 68% of the battery lifetime would fall between one standard deviation each way of the mean. 95% is two standard deviations away and 99% is three standard deviations away. Therefore, I would look at the range of 440-480 and say that the mean has to be in the middle of that, or 460. That would make the standard deviation 10.

    This means that the first standard deviation would fall 10 places on either side of 460, or from 450 - 470, and the second deviation would fall 10 more places on each side of the range from 440 - 480.
