Name of a Christmas Movie from the 30's?

I am trying to remember the name of a movie from, I believe, the 1930's. All I can remember is that a "famous" man, possibly an author, stops by a family's home in the weeks before Christmas, and slips and falls, and ends up having to stay at their home to recover. He is a miserable old coot, and makes everyone wait on him hand and foot. They can't wait to get rid of him, and it seems as if he will never get out of their hair..... The only other thing I can remember is that he has to do a radio interview from their living room, possibly on Christmas Eve. Help!!!

    Old Bill's Christmas is one I believe.

    Another might be called Knights before Christmas.

    I'm not sure if they're completely Christmas-related though.

    Sorry =[
