I have a beautiful cast iron cage that measures 10x24x24 in. Do you think it is too small for a cockateil?

It is way too small I think. Also, beautiful cages which have lots of decorations are quite dangerous for birds. They tend to get their feet, beaks or other parts of their bodies caught in them. You need a very large cage for a cockateil or any type of bird. Make sure you do a lot of research on birds before you decide to get one, as they area huge commitment! You can't just get one a put it in the cage to look pretty. They're a very high commitment pet, in some ways must more so then cats or dogs.

If the bird is going to be in his cage a good chunk of the time, you need a minimum of 36 inches in length, 18 inches in width, and 24 inches in height. 10x24x24 will be too small, methinks. Good luck with your bird situation! Take care!

Yes, it is way too small - stick a plant in it instead!
If you must have a cockateil, build it an aviary appropriate to its size.
